TRY HIGH HOLIDAY CLUB

TRY HIGH HOLIDAY CLUB

The Halifax Panthers have teamed up with Invictus Mental Wellbeing and Calder Community Squash along with other community organisations to provide a 4 day experience of rugby league, emotional wellbeing, community squash, cooking skills, Flat Stan first aid and much much more!

One week of fun activities for children on free school meals aged 7-11 is coming to a rugby club near you this summer!

Participants will join a small team and spend the week taking part in a feast of activities where they will enjoy not only rugby and squash sporting activity but improve their independence, cooking and first aid skills and their emotional wellbeing too! It doesn’t matter if you have never tried any of these sports or activities before because Try High is all about experiencing new things and having fun with new people!

Jack Duffy, Community Engagement Officer said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to connect with our local communities and give an experience of a lifetime for these children this summer! We can’t wait to see future Panthers and Panthettes having fun this summer and learning so many life skills and gaining independence along the way! It is very important for the Panthers to enrich people’s lives using the tool of rugby league and put the sport into new areas of the community as we are doing here with Try High! See you all this summer!’

Danny Hutchinson from Invictus Well-Being said: Mental health and well-being has become such an important issue over the last couple of years. We here at Invictus believe that learning about well-being and looking after your mind from a young age is so important to ensuring good mental health throughout life. If we can give the children the understanding and skills to support not only themselves but others, we can build a stronger, healthier and more resilient future! We are delighted to be partnering with the Halifax Panthers to offer our skills and knowledge around well-being through the Try High Holiday camp!

Aron Harper-Robinson from Calder Community Squash said: Here at Calder Community Squash we believe that a good understanding of nutrition and the ability to cook basic meals can be life changing, so as well as an introduction to squash we are delighted to run weekly cookery classes as part of the summer camp! With the help of the Halifax Panthers and Invictus Well-being we have also created the ‘Try High Recipe Book’ for participants!

We would like to thank Elland RLFC, Greetland Allrounders RLFC, Ovenden RLFC & King Cross RLFC for the use of their venues this summer. We would also like to offer a huge thank you to Calderdale Council and The Community Foundation for Calderdale for the funding to provide this opportunity.
