Hilda was one of those personalities that makes our great sport what it is. Kind and warm hearted with a brilliant sense of humour, but always there to put you right if you strayed off the path. She gave everything to her club and her boys. The RFL sends its condolences to the family and friends of Hilda Hardy, and to
Halifax Panthers. Hilda was added to the RFL’s Roll of Honour in 2008, as one of the unsung heroes who are the bedrock of the sport – Rugby Football League
We moved from Yorkshire to mid Wales 35 years ago, and I confess to being a ‘union’ man although I love both codes. Some years ago, when I was Chairman of Builth Wells RUFC, a good friend of ours and a staunch supporter of Halifax, Robert Gosling, invited us to the Shay for a match followed by a meal in the Club afterwards. We were introduced to Hilda, who not only welcomed us but made us feel ‘at home’. She even regaled us with several stories of her time at the club which had us in stitches.
What a unique and wonderful lady. There’ll never be another like her and likely never will. Her complete commitment to the club was evident, and it underlined how sport, at any level, needs people like her. I know! It was a genuine privilege to have met her, and we will never forget that evening. Your contribution to Halifax and rugby league will never be forgotten Hilda – Ian Blair
I first met Hilda when I joined as a Youth Development Manager in late 1999. It was very clear from day one Hilda and Stan were the heartbeat of the club and ruled the roost. At first they were a daunting prospect as there was their way of doing things and the wrong way! But very soon it also became apparent that if you wore the magical blue and white you were part of something very special and they considered you one of their own. Hilda was a mentor, listening ear and experienced guiding light for so many young men at the club and always had time for you.
I also remember her being the star of the show on a tv game when Castleford played Huddersfield at The Shay and a lot clash meant Castleford needed to borrow a kit! My most special memories actually came when I left for Widnes in 2004. When I saw her, Hilda always took time to ask how I was and how it was going, always being pleased to see you. Later when I had twin sons she would always post lovey comments on social media about how they were growing up.
Hilda was special. I am sad but also delighted she is reunited with her beloved Stan. I won’t forget you, the club won’t and the game won’t. Forever Blue and White. Forever Fax. Rest in Peace x – Tony Fretwell
I had 5 happy years with Hilda and Stan at Thrum Hall in the 80’s. She was a great lady and will be sorely missed. I spoke to her last year when I came for my heritage number and she had not changed. She once bought a pair of my old boots in an auction and wore them many a time at charity events. If you could let me know when and where the funeral will be I would be ever so grateful –Â Malcolm Agar
Rip Auntie Hilda xxx – Graham Eldridge
What a great honour it has been to have met and known Stan & Hilda Hardy. Near on forty years ago, two of the hardest working loyal supporters. Rest in peace Hilda you will always be treasured – Nigel Highley
I remember the number of visits I made to the Shay as a match official and also when the Shay hosted Siddal’s Challenge Cup tie with Batley Bulldogs and no matter who you were, Hilda had time to say hi to everyone. Sincere condolences to everyone at Halifax at this present time x – Lindsay Trelford

When i met Hilda in Year 2000, she was a very helpful and caring lovely person because she used to give me old Halifax shirts from the past and 25 years later, we are still friends and so send shocked about a friend. RIP Hilda Hardy – Sam Parsons
Hilda was one of the most welcoming and loving persons I ever met! From the moment I arrived at the Shay as a child to recently coming back home from Australia Hilda would give me a kiss on the cheek and a big hug, I’m genuinely heartbroken but humbled to have known such an incredible lady. You will always be in my heart. Rest in Peace x – Dwayne TetleyÂ
My memories of Hilda go back to the 1980’s when my son Andrew played for the Colts in 1986/7/&8. Hilda was always there dishing the after match food in the Taverner’s, and no doubt washing the kit. We became friends mostly through the Trust etc, travelling to matches, Quiz nights, Board Meetings and Club do’s. I won’t forget our Sponsored Walks to Bradford and twice to Dewsbury, the high heels didn’t do her feet much good, resulting in a huge blood blister, wedges were more suitable the 2nd time.
I was always employed picking up cans at away matches, Hilda never missed can. I shall miss our Friday morning coffee sessions putting both the rugby world and other to right. She has been a wonderful friend and I shall miss her very much, but the last few months have been hard for her. God Bless Hilda, rest easy now with your Stan –Â Maureen Booth
As a Trust we have lost a valued and loved member of our Board. Hilda was a keen and enthusiastic member whose endless and creative fundraising efforts played a vital role in supporting the club. Famously collecting tin cans for recycling, she raised several thousand pounds over the years much to her credit.
She was also well known for  her numerous sponsored walks to other clubs notably to Dewsbury in her high heels, surely something nobody else would ever do! The Club and Trust had always been a huge part of Hilda’s life and we have all lost someone who was quite unique. Rest in peace Hilda – David Durbin
A true friend and also a Fax fan. Hilda was a legend at the club. She was an ever present until this season. And I will really miss her enormously as I’m sure many others will. She was well respected by all the teams she ever was part of and a huge part of the Panthers supporters Rest in peace Hilda – Michael Riley
Can I please offer my condolences to Hilda’s friends and family. I would like to suggest that either Hilda herself or indeed Hilda and her late husband Stan are both inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame. A lot of Hall of Fames have categories for “contributors” and there could be no better example(s) – David Appleyard

The title of legend is given away too easily nowadays but Hilda was in every way the epitome of a club legend. So many funny memories and little chats here and there at games and on the away coaches. She is a star and will be sorely missed. Wherever she has gone to now one thing is for sure there won’t be any swearing! – Mark Cahill
Such a lovely lady who had time for everyone our thoughts go out to her family and friends at this sad time. RIP Hilda you will sadly missed –Â Peter and Anne Smith
We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hilda a true legend of the club whose presence, passion, and dedication touched so many lives. Hilda was always there to lend a hand, stepping in whenever needed with unwavering energy and love for the sport. The club simply won’t be the same without her.
One memory that will always stay with me was the time she was commentating over the microphone. She walked confidently onto the field in her heels, only for them to sink into the ground mid-script! After delivering her speech, she forgot to turn the microphone off and began shouting about the referee. Completely unaware it was being broadcast across the entire ground. It gave us all such a laugh and perfectly captured her fiery spirit and sense of humour.
Her legacy is one of laughter, dedication, and heart. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and everyone lucky enough to have known her. Rest in peace, Hilda you will be dearly missed and fondly remembered – Becky Reid
