PANTHERS ANNOUNCE DUAL REGISTRATION PARTNERSHIP WITH GIANTS

Halifax Panthers can today announce the continuation of our Dual Registration partnership with Super League neighbours Huddersfield Giants for the 2022 season.

The partnership will see the Panthers able to utilise members of the Giants squad in our matchday line ups and carries on the good working relationship between the two clubs.

“Dual Registration is a contentious topic for rugby league fans”, said Halifax Panthers head coach Simon Grix. “Personally, I view it as both insurance and opportunity. Meaning we have a budget and spend it on our own players where the DR can help if there are issues with injury, illness or suspensions. And Opportunity because the Giants have some quality players that we could utilise and feel the benefit of that quality.”

“I’ve had a good chat with Watto (Ian Watson) and we have both laid out what we need from the agreement if and when we use it. He is a straight up kind of bloke so I’m sure there will be no dramas with things. Ian has to look after Huddersfield first but having coached in the Championship he understands the quality of competition and good learning environment it can be for his players.”

“DR players may come in for a number of reasons, form, fitness or in some cases just simply to give us something we haven’t got within the squad. There is a lot to consider though on a team dynamic front also therefore there will always be good reason for the use of DR.”

Panthers Director of Rugby Ian Croad continued:

“We have a very good working relationship with The Huddersfield Giants. I am sure the continued partnership will be of benefit to both clubs. We have made some excellent signings this season but we all know how injury can change the dynamics. Having the ability to call on reinforcements could be the extra that we need. It’s a very competitive league and every little improvement makes a big difference.”

Huddersfield Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis added: “There is a natural geographical fit with Halifax and the partnership in the past has worked well for both club’s benefit. From the Giants perspective, we have the added resource that the reserve side will require to service and fulfil which will be a natural fit for both ours and Halifax’s fringe players over academy age and of course if we are able, and players are needed, we would like nothing better than to strengthen the Halifax first team if they require help.”

“They have a very strong side already with clear top four ambitions which again will offer our players opportunities from time to time. The model at Huddersfield now gives players opportunities at a multitude of levels, all of which we’d hope will enhance their development and ultimately enable them to be the best possible player that they can be.”
