DIRECTOR OF RUGBY UPDATE

Halifax Panthers Director of Rugby Richard Durgan has stepped down from his role this week with immediate effect following regular discussions with the club CEO and Head Coach.

As a volunteer, with a career outside Rugby League, the work commitments have increased to such a level where the time and focus needed were becoming challenging.

“It’s been an absolute honour to help this wonderful club over the past 18 months”, Said Durgan. “To lead the team out at Wembley was one of the highlights of my life and one of my proudest moments. I’ll continue to support the club as a sponsor and a fan as I have done for the last few years. Thank you all for your support. Please stick behind this board as they navigate the next few challenging but exciting years.“

“I’d like to thank Richard for his support for the club, in terms of energy, time and significant money over the past 18 months”, said Lee Kenny, Panthers Interim Chairman. “As Richard remains a shareholder of the club, I know he’ll be supporting the team all the way.”

As mentioned in this week’s Chairman’s update, the responsibilities of the Director of Rugby will be transferred to Head Coach Liam Finn, supported as necessary by CEO Damian Clayton.

Head Coach Liam Finn commented: “I am comfortable taking on some of the responsibilities that have been left with Richard stepping down. I have enjoyed working with Richard directly, and I have built relationships that are required in the DOR role in my previous job.”

“I look forward to re-building those and keeping on with the work we’ve done collectively to re-shape our squad and address the areas we feel need improving.”

Panthers CEO Clayton continued: “Richard’s dedication and passion has been nothing short of exceptional. While we will miss his commitment as Director of Rugby, his continued support as a sponsor and fan is invaluable.”

“Together, we can face the future with the same commitment and spirit he’s always shown throughout his tenure. I would personally like to thank him for his support as CEO and I look forward to embracing the challenges ahead with optimism and unity.”
