WAITE SIGNS NEW FAX DEAL

Halifax RLFC are pleased to announce that Oliver Waite has signed a new deal with the club ahead of the 2021 Betfred Championship campaign.

A former England youth international at U14’s and U16’s level, the 19 year old back rower will continue his development with his hometown club.

The Halifax native and former Siddal junior joined the clubs reserve grade from super league outfit Wigan Warriors. And Oli was excited at the prospect of putting a difficult year behind him.

“I think it’s been a really tough year for everyone this year’, said Waite. “It feels like we haven’t played for ages. Fortunately for me when I left Wigan, I came back home signed for Fax and also started an Electrical Engineering apprenticeship. It’s probably the best move I could’ve made, certainly with how things have turned out this year. We’ve managed to stay really busy at work, which means I’ve stayed physically active during lockdown. Working full time has made a huge difference, and really kept me focused mentally. I’m really excited to even start thinking abut playing rugby again. I can’t wait to get back training with the boys, smashing out another pre season and pushing for that starting spot in 2021. It’s always a proud moment representing your hometown club and pulling on the famous blue and white jersey.”

And Fax coach Simon Grix is backing his young prospect to realise his potential at the club. “We welcome Oli back for another crack at creating himself a opportunity in 2021. Oli had some great junior years at Siddal and spent some time at Wigan before joining us. There is clearly a player in there, it is now up to Oli to apply himself and the coaching staff to work with him to realise his potential.”
