TIBBS SIGNS FOR ANOTHER TWO

Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce that Ben Tibbs has signed a new two year deal with the club, keeping him at The Shay until the end of the 2024 Betfred Championship season.

The 21 year old has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining from Huddersfield Giants ahead of the 2021 season, quickly climbing through the club ranks to nail down a starting spot in Simon Grix’s side in only his second year as a senior professional.

Boasting an impressive try scoring record in Fax colours, including hattrick against Sheffield Eagles at The Shay contributing towards his total of 11 tries so far in 2022, and showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Equally adept at both centre and on the wing, Tibbs has firmly established himself as an exciting prospect at Championship level.

And the youngster was only too happy to commit his future to the club at the first opportunity.

“I’m happy with the new contract,” said Tibbs. “When it got put in front of me, it was quite an easy decision to make. I’m enjoying my time here now and with the plans the club have going forward, I want to be a part of that. Also for me personally, to continue to develop as a player, I think everything is here for me to do that at Halifax so I’m looking forward to it.”

Panthers head coach Simon Grix continued:

“Tibbs has been very patient having played only a little bit of rugby I suppose over the last couple of years. He’s had an opportunity this year, we first put him in against Workington and he was really good and it was really hard to leave him out of the team after that but he found another opportunity and took it with both hands.”

“He’s scored some really good tries and he’s set up some really good tries as well. At 21,
he’s got a long way to go yet but he’s a great prospect for us. He’s got speed to burn and he’s a really good kid as well. He’s probably unlucky not to find himself in a Super League squad environment so I’m happy we can pin him down for a couple of years, get the best out of him where he is now but also enjoy helping him become a better player as well.”
