SUPER DAN SIGNS NEW 2 YEAR PANTHERS DEAL

Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce the re-signing of Prop Dan Murray on a 2 year deal until the end of the 2024 Betfred Championship season.

The 26 year old former Salford and Hull KR man has had a blistering 2022 so far, earning rave reviews for his extended minutes performances in the middle as well as becoming a prolific try scorer, chipping in with 8 tries to date.

A popular player both on and off the field, Dan has found himself at home at the club he first came to on dual registration in 2017 and was ecstatic to commit his future to the Panthers.

“I’m buzzing and happy to get it over the line,” said Murray. “Over these last two years, it’s felt like home and I’m happy and enjoying it and it’s hopefully being replicated on the pitch. Through the process, I thought I was playing some of my best rugby and I’m enjoying it. I get on with Simon a lot, all the fans are
great, and the club is run the way it should be so why not sign on for another two years.”

“It says a lot that a lot of the same faces from my last period at the club are still here. The atmosphere of the club is brilliant, it’s like a big family really so it was a no brainer really.”

And his head coach Simon Grix revealed the feeling was mutual when it comes to the man the squad affectionately call “Dizzy”.

“Dan’s been in great form and it was an easy conversation. He’s happy here and we’re more than happy to keep him. For me, he has to be up there with the best front rowers in the competition. He’s not always flash, yes he’s scored some tries this season but I think it’s the stuff that you don’t always get a lot of recognition for, big effort and enthusiasm, which I really like in my forwards, and Dizzy’s got lots of that.”

“And he’s maturing as well, he’s only 26 so he’s still got a lot of time in the game and there’s going to be a lot more improvement as well because his attitude is exactly where it needs to be so I’m really happy to have him here.”

Murray joins Lachlan Walmsley, Louis Jouffret and James Woodburn-Hall as the latest Panthers to commit his immediate future to the club ahead of a
big push for the play offs.
