PANTHERS SIGN DORCE HANTZ ON SHORT TERM DEAL

Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce the signing of Francois Dorce Hantz on an initial 28 day short term contract.

The 23 year old prop will join Liam Finn’s side with immediate effect looking to showcase his talents to earn a permanent deal at The Shay.

The former France U19s international has been plying his trade with Sporting Olympique Avignon in the Elite 1 competition, and has been a cornerstone of the Bisons pack since making his debut back in 2018.

And with the French season now completed, Dorce Hantz will try to force his way into contention for a Panthers jersey.

Head Coach Liam Finn commented: “Francois got in touch with us through Louis (Jouffret) and our French connection there. The French season finished and he wanted to come over and show himself in the British game and have a try at making himself a Championship player. We were happy to facilitate that, get him over here and see how he goes. Obviously, no promises or anything in terms of game time or whatever but, to get him in and registered to be able to play and hopefully, get him out there in some way shape or form, be it with us or someone else. We can see what he’s got to offer.”

“He’s been playing in the French competition for a couple of years now, he’s an experienced prop within that environment and obviously, it’s a little bit different over here but they do play with the expanding amount of English and Australian players in Elite 1. They do play a similar way to us now, it’s probably not as much of an extreme jump as it used to be.”

“It’ll be interesting to get him in and see what he’s about. He has trained with us a couple of times and he looks more than capable, we’ll get him in there doing some proper stuff and see where he’s at. And obviously, it’s a little bit of a shot to nothing for himself and for us but one where we’re not stacked to much in that position as of late. Obviously, with Cally (Will Calcott) being out long term, it’s a no brainer to give him that opportunity and it’s up to him now to take it with both hands. We’ll keep an eye on his progress and if we think he’s doing enough, he might get an opportunity in the blue and white.”
