PANTHERS CONFIRM PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE

PANTHERS LOCK IN TWO DATES TO COMPLETE PRE-SEASON

Halifax Panthers can confirm our pre-season schedule ahead of the 2021 campaign with two dates locked in as Simon Grix gets a good look at his squad and no fewer than eight new faces.

FIRST UP,

We will host an opposed training session against Huddersfield Giants at The Shay Stadium on Saturday March 6th which will be behind closed doors as the Panthers get chance to test themselves against Super League opposition.

Our media team will be bringing you footage, updates and interviews from the session from players and head coach Simon Grix.

NEXT UP FOR THE PANTHERS,

We then travel to Bower Fold to face Oldham RLFC on March 13th in a pre-season friendly for a 4pm kick off as the Panthers finally get back to playing Rugby League after well over 12 months out due to the pandemic.

The game will also give both teams the chance to complete 80 mins of full on contact and take a look at players, combinations and fitness levels against Championship opposition as both the Panthers and Oldham will be in competitive action just a week later in the Challenge Cup first round.

The Roughyeds have assembled a strong squad for the 2021 campaign and one player who will be familiar to the Fax faithful is former centre, Ben Heaton who made over 100 appearances in the Blue & White and was a huge favourite at The Shay in his eight years at the club.

Panthers Head Coach Simon Grix was clearly delighted to get pre-season locked in,

“In recent times we have had a great relationship with the Giants and the opportunity for both sides to have a run against unfamiliar opposition is really beneficial, leading into a season where both clubs have made a number of changes.”

“Confirming the Giants opposed session was closely followed by an invite from Chris Hamilton to go over to Oldham for a friendly and we were happy to take the offer.”

“After what has been a short and restricted pre season, the opposed session with the Giants and the friendly with Oldham are very important for me to see where the lads are at in terms applying what we have practiced on the training field and gain clarity on decisions around selection.”

“The lads have trained well and got on with the protocols in place, getting in early to get tested etc  throughout pre season.  All of the squad will get an opportunity to impress in these sessions, so need to put their best foot forward as we look to finalise our preparation for the first competitive game on the 20th at Home to Batley in the Challenge Cup.”
