The Panthers wrapped up pre-season with a hard fought win at Bower Fold against a determined Oldham side as Simon Grix gave minutes to all 21 of his named squad for the clash.

The win backed up an impressive showing in our opposed training session last week against Huddersfield Giants and with no injury concerns following the game it leaves Simon Grix with a selection headache for all the right reasons ahead of the Batley Bulldogs Challenge Cup 1st round clash at The Shay next Saturday.

The game featured eight new faces for the Panthers who all impressed on what was for many their first full 80 minute game in over a year.

Panthers started on the front foot playing some nice rugby and raced into a 10-0 lead with tries from Zack McComb and Will Calcott before Oldham responded before the break with a try of their own to keep the score close as the hooter sounded with Panthers leading 10-6 at the interval.

The second half saw Panthers once again take a grip on the game early on with quick fire tries in the space of four minutes from Ed Barber and Conor Mcgrath giving the away side some breathing space before Oldham came back and responded again to make the score 20-12 heading into the last quarter.

James Saltonstall crossed for the Panthers before Oldham hit back again keeping them in touching distance until young Welsh international Connor Davies got his first and the Panthers sixth try of the game to seal the win after some neat play from James Woodburn-Hall.
