OAKLEY RECRUIT NUMBER TEN

Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce the signing of Cole Oakley for the 2022 season.

The 21 year old joins the Panthers after coming through the ranks as a Centre at his hometown club Warrington Wolves.

He continued his development in the Championship, spending time on loan with Newcastle Thunder before a spell with Rochdale Hornets to help the League 1 club out during an injury crisis.

However, with first team opportunities at the Halliwell Jones Stadium limited, the former Rylands Sharks and Woolston Rovers junior moved to the north east on a permanent basis in 2021.

A centre prospect that is equally adept to the back row of the pack, this versatility excited Simon Grix enough to bring Oakley to The Shay.

And the youngester was excited at the prospect of a move to West Yorkshire.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to join the Panthers this year” said Oakley. “You can see the ambition of the club with the signings that have already been made in the off season, it’s going to be an exciting season in 2022.”

Panthers coach Simon Grix on the news:

“Cole is coming to the club having come through the system at Warrington progressing to the first team squad. That team is a hard one to crack so Cole tried his hand against men for Newcastle this last year and gained some valuable experience in doing so. He is a good size, coming to us looking to continue his development and learn his trade. We are really pleased to be able to give him the opportunity.”
