Halifax crashed to their first defeat in 6 games, and only a second loss since 27th March, as they were totally outplayed by a dominant London Broncos performance in a 38-10 defeat.
The Broncos, returning to Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium, gave their loud fans a performance to remember while the Panthers gave the loyal band of supporters who made the trip down South a day to forget.
The majority of the damage was done in the first half with the Broncos racing into a 20-0 lead at the interval which they never looked like losing. Fullback Alex Walker, who was a close season triallist with Fax, was the star of the show, scoring a try and supplying countless assist to maybe show Simon Grix what he missed out on.
The Panthers named Cole Oakley in the Second Row for his competitive debut and it was a baptism of fire for the 21 year old, cruelly exposed by a ruthless Broncos attack. It took the home side less than 5 minutes to strike, Welsh International Dalton Grant crossing on the left flank, Oli Leyland converting for a 6-0 lead. The Broncos then cut loose, scoring 3 tries in a 10 minute spell.
Paul Ulberg, Ilies Macani and Will Lovell crossing for the home side without reply and the Panthers were lucky they weren’t behind by more.
The first score of the second half would be crucial and it was the Panthers that got it after 54 mins. Ex Broncos man James Woodburn-Hall crossing for his 6th try of the season, Joe Keyes converting and at 20-6 a hint of a comeback was on. But when the kick off was allowed to bounce and go out of play resulting in a goal line drop out, Dean Parata’s try 2 minutes later effectively ended the game as a contest.
Oli Leyland and that man Walker again added to the Broncos scoresheet before James Saltonstall managed to grab a consolation try. The last word belonged to the home side, Macani grabbing his 2nd try just before the final hooter ending a painful afternoon for Simon Grix and the Halifax players and supporters. London Broncos 38-10 Halifax Panthers.
