Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce that Tom Inman has signed a new two year deal with the club, keeping him at The Shay until the end of the 2026 season

The 21 year old joined his hometown club from Betfred Championship side York Knights ahead of the 2023 season, quickly establishing himself as a fans favourite on the terraces with his committed performances.

A former King Cross Park junior who came through the ranks at Super League outfit Warrington Wolves, hooker Inman has found himself thrust into the spotlight as the clubs only fit dummy half following the departure of Brandon Moore in pre season and an injury to captain Adam O’Brien, who has missed the last 3 months with a bicep tear.

That has left Inman with sole control of the Panthers starting number nine jersey, a role he has relished and embraced in difficult circumstances. And Tom was happy to commit his future to his hometown club for at least another two years.

“I’m happy to be staying”, said Inman. “I like where I am and I like working under Finny and the group we’ve got so yeah, I’m happy to be staying. I had aspirations as a young kid to play for Halifax, I used to watch some of the lads down there and always think about playing at The Shay and now I’m playing with them so it’s a good feeling. I wanted to commit to the Panthers so I’m glad to have signed and looking forward to what’s ahead.”

“I think I lead by example through actions but in terms of the improvements I want to make during my Halifax career, but I probably want to lead with words a bit more and become more of a team leader in the group. I’d like to say I naturally gravitate towards a leadership role on the field, I am young and know my place and stuff but as I’ve built into things here, I’m trying to get into that role and be a speaker as well as a leader with actions.”

When asked about the pressures of being the clubs only fit hooker for the league campaign to date, Inman continued: “I think I’ve handled it really well. I thought I was having a good run of games and I’ve been really enjoying it and taking it all in.
It was bad news when I found out about my injury but these things happen in Rugby League, it wasn’t nice to hear but that’s the game. I’ve really enjoyed my time up to now and I’m going to make sure I do everything I can to get back to performing how I was playing before when I do eventually come back.”

The youngster finds himself set for a spell on the side lines after suffering a broken jaw during a challenge that saw Featherstone Rovers winger Gareth Gale sent off in May’s Round Seven clash at Millennium Stadium. But that hasn’t stopped the club investing in the bright young talent that Inman has shown himself to be early on in his Fax career. And head coach Liam Finn was clearly delighted to have tied down his talents for years to come.

“I’m really pleased for us as a club, as a town and for Tom himself to have got this deal over the line”, said Finn. “Tom is one of those people that we want the club to epitomise and build around. His work ethic, his toughness, his resilience, his competitiveness, those are qualities that we want in a Halifax player and it’s even more of a bonus that he’s a Halifax lad. We want, along with other players that we’ve got here that are contracted beyond this year, to build a team that follows that sort of mantra and Tom’s a big part of that, we’re delighted that he’s staying for another couple of years.”

“I think the more experience he gets and being out there and learning will only benefit him and help him develop here. He’s got all the attributes and the skills to play the game at hooker to a high level, it’s all about being out there and learning when and where to use those attributes that he’s got. Experience can’t really be replicated and he’s been getting plenty of that recently and he’s just going to keep improving his game from week to week and year to year. Yeah, I can’t see anything other than improvement in Tom at the minute so it’s great news for the club to have him sign a new deal.”
