FLYING SCOTSMAN RUNS FROM HALIFAX FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS

Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce the re-signing of Scottish International Lachlan Walmsley on a two year deal until the end of the 2024 season.

The Australian born Winger impressed in 2021 at Whitehaven and has carried on where he left off in Cumbria, racing his way to joint top of the Championship try scoring charts with 15 tries.

The announcement will finally put the rumours of a potential move to Super League to bed as the prolific winger commits his immediate future to Simon Grix’s side. And in such a pivotal year with the Rugby League World Cup at season’s end, the 24 year old was keen to get his future sorted early so he can kick on for both club and country.

“It’s good to be able to sign again with the Panthers,’ said Walmsley. “It was an easy decision to make. It’s been a welcoming experience coming to this club. Obviously, there was 11 new faces when I got here but to have those lads welcome me like they have, it’s been good. But to sign a deal for another 2 years, I’m very grateful and excited for what can be made of it. It’s a very professional club so it’s good to be a part of it.”

And Fax boss Simon Grix was happy to have his man on board for 2023 and beyond.

“Lachlan’s got some x factor about him, he can do things that other people can’t. And at 24 years old, he’s got a lot of improvement in him physically and in terms of his rugby league IQ. He’s at a good level now and I think we can get him quite a bit further along on that side of things. And he’s a good bloke as well. He’s fit in really nicely with our group, the lads get on with him really well. I think he’s really enjoying his time here.”
