Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce the latest additions to our backroom staff, with Liam Finn joining the club as assistant coach while Scott Grix takes over the role of strength and conditioning coach.

Finn, who began his playing career with the club back in 2002, went on to make over 450 appearances in the professional game before finally calling time on a sterling 19 year career at the end of 2021. And he’s wasted no time getting back into the sport in a coaching capacity as he takes on the task of being Simon Grix’s right hand man. The former Ireland captain has signed a one year deal with the club.

“Rikki leaving us obviously left us in need of a replacement and Finny was the first person I spoke to” said head coach Simon Grix. “Like Rikki, Finny has obviously represented the club as a player, keeping a keen interest after moving on,
therefore has a real understanding of our club and the expectations around it.
He is an experienced coach who will bring a lot to the coaching team, as we look to continue the good work of 2021.”

Scott Grix began his career with Doncaster in 2003 before joining his hometown club the following year. He made over 350 appearances with a number of Super League clubs before returning to The Shay in 2019, and is also recently retired from the professional game. He hung up his boots at the conclusion on the 2021 season.

Scott inherits the task of ensuring Fax are fighting fit for the upcoming campaign from the departing Andy Holleyhead, having previously worked as a player-assistant with the club.

“It’s great for us to welcome Scott fully onto the coaching team as Strength & Conditioner” said the Fax boss. “The characteristics he has developed as a person and
player will transfer nicely into this role, in addition to working with our back 3 throughout the year, imparting his knowledge and experience there also.”

Both are former Ireland internationals with heaps of experience in the professional game and will be hoping to bring their knowledge and expertise to the Panthers ahead of a huge season in 2022.
