DUO DEPART PANTHERS

Halifax Panthers can today announce the departures of Liam Harris and Curtis Davies, who leave the club seeking new opportunities.

Half back Harris, who joined the Panthers on a permanent deal ahead of the 2021 season, made 21 appearances for the club scoring 8 tries, including a hattrick at Batley in a famous 22-12 comeback win during our nine game winning streak earlier this summer.

The 24 year old departs after a single season at The Shay which saw Halifax finish third in the table and make it all the way to the play off semi finals.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this season with Halifax and I can’t thank Ian and Simon enough for the opportunity to play for this club,’ said Harris. “I’d like to thank all the boys for making me feel so welcome and finally the fans for the support they showed us this year. I wish everyone associated with the club all the very best for the future.”

Head coach Simon Grix commented: “Liam has been good for us this year but he will be moving on for the 2022 season. Coming out of a full time environment takes some adjusting as your lifestyle changes significantly. This, in addition to the commute to Halifax, has been a real learning curve for Liam and a club closer to home will suit him better at this stage. He goes with our best wishes for what’s next.”

Director of Rugby Ian Croad added: “Liam is a talented player and will continue to develop, unfortunately for us it will be elsewhere. I would like to thank him and wish him all the best for the future.”

24 year old Wales international hooker Davies departs after five seasons with the club, having progressed through our reserve grade to become a staple of our first team squad in recent times. He made his full debut during the televised Super 8s clash away at London Broncos in 2018, but struggled to nail down a regular position in Simon Grix’s starting line up.

“I really enjoyed my time at Halifax’, said Curtis. “I’m grateful to have met the people I have whilst at the club. I’ve made some good mates and memories but figured it was time for a change. Diolch.”

Head coach Simon Grix commented: “Curtis leaving is much like his brother where, for me personally, it is bitter sweet. He has thrown himself into training, displaying a great attitude and constant example of a highly motivated individual, performing well when called upon.”

“Unfortunately, we have reached a stage where Curtis needs to be playing week in and week out and right now, I cannot guarantee that. Curtis understands this and although happy at the club, knows it is in his best interests to move on. As with Connor, the door is not closed on a return as their character and commitment to getting better means they will be ones to watch wherever they end up. We wish them all the luck with what’s next and take a keen interest in how they go.”

Director of Rugby Ian Croad added: “Curtis is a very committed player and from my time on the training field he was always doing those little extras that matter. I don’t think this will be the last time we see him in a Panthers shirt.”

We wish them both well for the future and thank them both for their efforts in a Halifax Panthers shirt.

Curtis and Liam join Scott Grix, Conor McGrath, Nick Rawsthorne, Sion Jones and Connor Davies who are now confirmed as departures ahead of the 2022 campaign.
