Dan the Man Shows Children they CAN! – Try High Holiday Camp

Halifax, WEST YORKSHIRE — We ended our Try High Summer camp in a fitting way this week with a day full of high profile visitors, including Councillor Dan Wilkinson and our very own Dan Murray!

Dan surprised the children with not only a visit but also the delivery of their afternoon rugby session which saw them learn new skills and techniques whilst getting competitive in the fun games included too. The day was then rounded off with a q&a with Dan resulting in some fantastic questions from the children as they found out how he came to be the successful Rugby League player he is today!

To have Dan with us today was what community rugby is all about! You could see the anticipation as he approached the room we were in and the pure excitement when they were taking part in the drills and the q&a! This summer camp experience is a small taste of what we look to achieve in our communities and long may the fun and learning continue, as we continue to grow as the Panthers! Personal thank you to all clubs, organisations and small businesses that have helped shape the success it has been this summer!

Try High has brought a unique experience of Rugby League, Cooking and nutrition, Squash, Emotional Well-being techniques and first aid to over 120 children through the Try High partnership. A huge thank you to those involved; Invictus well-being, Calder Community Squash, Flat Stan First Aid, NJR Coaching, Stod Fold Brewing and the Community Foundation for Calderdale / Calderdale council for their part too. A big thank you to our community clubs that hosted the holiday club throughout the month of programming. Keep a close eye out moving forward for Try High as we continue to grow in the community!

Had a great session today on the try high programme. It’s the perfect platform to get started into a wide range of sports, and to continue to build the great relationships between the club and the community.
