COOK ISLAND KING REIGNS AGAIN

Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce that Adam Tangata has signed a new two year deal with the club, keeping him at The Shay until the end of the 2024 Betfred Championship season.

The 31 year old is currently in his third spell with the club having previously turned out for Widnes Vikings and Wakefield Trinity before his homecoming during the 2021 season. The Panthers beat a number of Championship rivals to secure the Cook Islander’s signature after big interest in the out of contract powerhouse forward.

But the adopted son of Halifax wasn’t swayed by offers from elsewhere.

“It’s great. I’m glad that I’ve managed to get that over the line with the club,” said Tangata. “I think it’s pretty obvious that I didn’t want to go anywhere else. The club have been good to me and it’s just nice to repay the favour in many ways.”

“The fans have always made me feel welcome. I’ve kind of taken this as a second home for myself and the fax fans have helped make it really comfortable for me. I’m more or less set on helping the club get to where they want to get in the next few years. And if I can play a part in that, I’m happy to put my hand up. Halifax deserves to be higher up than we are so if I can help us achieve that, I’ll do my best.”

Renowned as an explosive prop with good ball playing skills and a larger than life personality that has seen him become a fan favourite on the Shay Stadium terraces, Tangata previously represented the Mount Pritchard Mounties in the NSW Cup and also played for the Canberra Raiders Under 20s side before making the move to the U.K in 2015. Tangata has made 22 appearances so far for Fax this season, scoring 3 tries.

And Panthers head coach Simon Grix was happy to have Tangata signed, sealed and delivered for the next two seasons.

“Adam has come and gone a couple of times now but I feel like we’ve got a better version of Adzy each time he has returned to the point now where I think he’s adopted, by default but also because of his age, a senior player role.”

Grix continued: “He’s doing a really good job in managing standards and helping out in loads of areas. Helping other people make themselves better which is in turn making him better. The key factor in signing him and giving him that time was not only those reasons given but also his performances as well.”

“A number of clubs would’ve been happy to have him so we’re really happy he’s signed and jumped on with us again. I don’t think he ever wanted to be anywhere else to be honest. Plus it gives us some continuity in the squad which we’ve been striving for. He’s part of the nucleus of the team that will allow us to move forward strongly.”
