CONTRACT CHAT | Sion Jones to Leave Panthers

Halifax, WEST YORKSHIRE — It is much sadness that Sion Jones and the Halifax Panthers will mutually part ways at the end of the 2021 season.

The young forward has had an injury-hampered start to his time with the first team squad. Jones was a handful to deal with in the forwards, regularly committing multiple defenders to the tackle due to his sheer strength and determination.

Panthers Head Coach, Simon Grix  had this to say,

Sion has been dealt a ridiculous hand on the injury front over the last few years. Obviously his ACL, which he worked extremely hard to get back from only to be stalled through the Covid shut down of 2020. The idea was to get him back playing with Hunslet and fit for selection, unfortunately Sion got injured again and we have mutually agreed to part ways. Speaking from experience it is really hard to keep turning up and getting through your rehab with little light at the end of the tunnel and Sion did so without complaint. He added value to the group inspite of his injuries and showed some real resilience and strength of character.
Sion is taking a bit of time off before returning to his roots in Rugby Union soon. He showed some real promise for us and just needs abit of luck to regain his confidence. We wish him all the best for his future.S
