Welcome to the Panthers, Amir Bourouh

Halifax Panthers are delighted to announce the signing of Wigan Warriors hooker Amir Bourouh who joins the club on a season long loan ahead of the Betfred Championship 2021 campaign.

The 20 year old represented local amateur side Siddal in his junior days before catching the attention of Wigan who then awarded Amir an academy contract at the age of just 14 in 2015.

A number of impressive performances for the Wigan Academy earned the youngster a call up to the England U16’s side.

Amir then progressed to the Wigan U19’s side where he would go on to score 13 tries in 36 appearances over a two year spell in 2018 & 2019.

After making his Wigan first team debut in 2019 against Salford Red Devils, Borouh then went on to become an Academy Grand Final winner in their 22-10 victory over St. Helens at the DW Stadium.

Bourouh is renown for his explosive and dynamic runs from dummy half and is sure to get the Panthers fans off their feet in 2021.

Amir spoke to PanthersTV and was clearly excited about joining his hometown club,

“I’m buzzing and honoured to have the opportunity to play for my hometown club for the season. I can’t wait to get going and hopefully I can add something to the exciting side Simon has built.”

Head Coach Simon Grix was delighted to get the youngster on board for the season,

“Amir is a local product on his way up in the game and circumstances dictate he needs somewhere to continue his development as he attempts to build on the positive performances he had for Wigan in 2020.”

“He provides another option at 9 for us and I expect the competition to bring the best out of Brandon and Curtis.”

“He is quick out of dummy half and aggressive in defence with good habits from a successful environment.  I’m sure he will prove to be a good acquisition.”

Amir will proudly be sponsored by Zenith Independent Wealth Management in 2021.
