Halifax Panthers are pleased to announce the signing of Ed Barber on a deal until the end of the 2024 Betfred Championship season.

“I’m over the moon to be back at Halifax”, said Barber. “I can’t wait to pull on the shirt again and get back on the field with the lads and help get the team back to winning ways.”

The 34 year old utility man departed the Panthers at the end of 2022 after 8 seasons with his hometown club, finishing his Fax career as the club’s Star Man Award Winner before announcing his retirement from Rugby League.

But now Barber will return to The Shay under Liam Finn’s tutelage, and the Panthers head coach was happy to have a familiar figure back among his ranks.

“When the opportunity to bring Ed back to the club came up, it was short discussion”, said Finn.

“Ed knows the club very well, has been to most home games as a fan and in our current situation, we thought he would give us a boost in multiple areas on field and off.”

Also significantly, he cares a lot for this club and wants to contribute in anyway he can so we’re pleased to have him back.”

Barber will go straight into contention for a second debut this weekend as Halifax Panthers take on Swinton Lions in the Betfred Championship.
